Opening the Doors to White House History

The People’s House: A White House Experience, created and operated by the White House Historical Association, is an educational museum experience with the mission of making White House history more accessible to all. This one-of-a-kind space offers a deeper connection to the legacy of the White House. Through cutting-edge exhibits, hands-on displays, and exclusive insights, visitors surround themselves with the stories of presidents, first families, and key figures who have shaped American history.

Situated at 1700 Pennsylvania Avenue NW just steps away from the White House and National Mall in Washington D.C., the 33,000-square-foot site features exhibits and galleries bringing the White House and its storied history to life. Visitors can interact with a large-scale White House model, walk through a recreation of the Rose Garden, explore a full-scale replica of the Oval Office, participate in a cabinet meeting, and learn incredible stories about living and working in the Executive Mansion through a mix of immersive media and inventive representations of White House spaces.

After 20 months of planning, creating, renovating, and fundraising, The People’s House opened its doors in September 2024 and welcomed more than 275,000 visitors in its first year.

The People’s House is also home to the White House History Shop, a 1,500-square-foot flagship retail store, featuring products that are developed exclusively for the Association, with collections inspired by White House architecture, design, and history. Above the exhibit and retail space lies an educational wing, designed for students and other groups to further immersive themselves in White House history.

General admission to The People’s House is free, with a suggested donation to support our mission-driven programs, exhibits, and educational outreach.
