Hours

The People’s House is open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm with some exceptions.

The People’s House is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. Please see Contact Us for other scheduled closures.

The People's House welcomes groups of 16 or more to reserve free timed-entry passes. To help prepare for your visit, large groups are asked to fill out a group passes request form.

What is The People's House: A White House Experience?

The People's House: A White House Experience is a cutting-edge educational museum experience that tells the story of the Executive Mansion, its inhabitants and the people who have dedicated their careers to its functions. Through innovative exhibits, objects, and interactive media, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of the White House's role in American history. 

This space is operated by the White House Historical Association, a private, nonprofit organization founded in 1961 by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy with a mission to protect, preserve, and provide public access to the rich history of America’s Executive Mansion.

The People's House: A White House Experience is a new educational museum experience located at 1700 Pennsylvania Avenue. Passes for the experience do not provide access to the White House, West Wing, or White House Complex.

How much does it cost to visit The People's House?

General admission is free, with a suggested $15 donation to support the museum’s mission-driven programs, exhibits, and educational outreach. We recommend reserving your passes in advance of your visit to ensure we can accommodate your party.

Do I have to reserve my pass in advance?

No. Limited walk-up passes are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reserving your pass online will ensure you get the day and time of your choice, especially during peak hours. We recommend a donation of $15 per person to support The People’s House.

Please note that we are open every day from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM with some exceptions. Last entrance time for the day is 4:00 PM (or 1 hour before closing).

How far in advance can I reserve my passes?

Passes are released by 5pm EST on the first business day of each month for the following month (for example, passes for November will become available by 5pm EST on the first business day in October).

Code of Conduct

Please help us make The People’s House enjoyable, safe, and inspirational for others. While on our premises, no visitor shall:

  • Carry firearms, other dangerous or deadly weapons, or explosives. The prohibition on firearms applies to all visitors, including those with firearm permits. These restrictions do not apply to authorized federal and local law enforcement on official duty or in uniform.
  • Use offensive, abusive, threatening, or violent language or behavior.
  • Protest or conduct demonstrations of any kind.
  • Display, wear, or carry any signs, placards, banners, or clothing that could detract from the experience of other visitors.
  • Possess, sell, or use any alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, tobacco products, cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, electronic cigarettes, and vapes.
  • Climb, destroy, or otherwise damage the building or exhibits.
  • Bring pets, except for service animals.
  • Loiter or sleep.
  • Distribute any unauthorized pamphlets, advertisements, flyers, other literature or third-party sales.
  • Be admitted to the Experience without wearing a shirt and shoes. Visitors must wear proper body and foot covering throughout their visit.

Failure to comply with the code of conduct may result in removal of you and your party from our premises. The People’s House reserves the right to administer other punishments - such as revoking membership and enacting lifetime bans - as seen fit by management.
