The People's House will open at 10am on Monday, April 13, 2026 due to an event. The White House History Shop will be open regular business hours from 9am-5pm.

Student Classroom Experience

The People's House offers facilitated field trips for K-12 groups of 10-35 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the school year starting at 9:00 a.m. (morning session) and 1:00 p.m. (afternoon session). Depending on grade level, visits last approximately 60-90 minutes and include both guided exhibit and facilitated classroom time.

*While field trips are free, a $200 refundable deposit is due at the time of booking and will be fully refunded following your visit.

Field Trip & Youth Group Information

Chaperone Policy

Students must be supervised at all times. The required chaperone ratios per grade level are:

K-4: 1 adult for every 5 students

5-12: 1 adult for every 10 students

Reservation and Cancellation Policies

While field trips are free, a $200 refundable deposit is due at the time of booking and will be fully refunded following your visit. You can cancel your reservation up to 14 days prior to your scheduled visit to receive a full refund. If you cancel your reservation less than 14 days prior, you will forfeit the deposit. If you need to change your existing reservation or no longer plan to visit, please email TPHreservations@whha.org.

Field trips are scheduled on a first come, first served basis and must be booked at least 6 weeks in advance. 

Getting to The People’s House

Groups arriving by school or charter bus can drop off and pickup at 17th and G St NW. There is no on-site parking for private cars or buses.

The closest Metro stops are Farragut North (Red) and Farragut West (Blue, Orange, and Silver).

Arrival Procedure

When you arrive, please send your primary contact to the Visitor Services Desk to alert Visitor Services staff of your arrival. An Education staff member will greet your group on the bus or guide your group to an available space within the museum to provide a brief welcome and orientation to The People’s House.

Please leave bags, backpacks, food, water bottles, and other belongings on the bus.

All visitors will go through mandatory security screening upon entry.

Snacks and Lunch

Only water is permitted at The People’s House, but should be in a closed container (water bottle, thermos, etc.) We encourage groups to take a snack break or eat lunch in Lafayette Park, directly across the street from the White House. In the case of inclement weather, there is a food court at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center at 1300 Pennsylvania Ave NW.

Food or water needed for medical reasons is permitted inside The People’s House.

The People’s House is a highly immersive experience containing bright and flashing lights and audiovisual features in most galleries.
